Lifting the Shilling Stone

Ali cleaned the shilling stone last week.

He had delayed doing this until a new fixing was put on the ceiling so they could use the crane to lift the runner.

Here he is oiling the mechanism in the centre.

The shilling stone takes off the husk of the bere but leaves the grain whole.

The stone is millstone grit but the surface is coated with corundum which makes it super hard.
