Visit Barony Mill during the summer to discover how Barony Mill works.

You will be shown all the stages of the milling process, from drying the grain over a kiln, through the various pieces of machinery, all driven purely using water power.  View displays of photographs of old-time farming in Birsay and milling tools and samples of the bere barley grain at each stage of the milling.

Tours also include demonstrations of the running of the machinery.

Our process has remained unchanged for hundreds of years.

Location

The Mill is located on the main road, A968, from Dounby to the Palace and the Brough of Birsay, both major tourist sites of Historic Scotland. See map below for directions.
